The Flag

**Blazey** · September 24th, 2001, 12:51 AM

I am the flag of the United States of America.
My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's hall of justice.
I stand guard with power in the world.
Look up and see me.
I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom.
I am confident.
I am arrogant.
I am proud.

When I am flown with my fellow banners, my
head is a little higher, my
colors a little truer.

I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
I am worshipped-I am saluted.
I am loved-I am revered.
I am respected-and I am feared.

I have fought in every battle of every war for
more than 200 years.
I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg,
Shiloh and Appomattox.
I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of
France, in the Argonne
Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy,
Guam, Okinawa, Korea,
Khesan, Saigon, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf know
me.

I was there.
I led my troops,
I was dirty, battle worn and tired, but my
soldiers cheered me and
I was proud.

I have been burned, torn and trampled on the
streets of countries,
I have helped set free.
It does not hurt, for
I am invincible.

I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and
trampled on the streets of my country.
And when it's by those whom I've served in
battle-it hurts,
But I shall overcome-for
I am strong.

I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood
watch over the uncharted
frontiers of space from my vantage point on the
moon.
I have borne silent witness to all America's
finest hours.
But my finest hours are yet to come.

When I am torn into strips and used as
bandages for my wounded comrades
on the battlefield,
When I am flown at half-mast to honor my
soldier, Or when I lie in the
trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave
of their fallen son or
daughter,
I am proud.

God Bless America!

God Bless America
by Irving Berlin

"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. "

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home
God bless America, My home_sweet_home....

You're a Grand Old Flag
by George M. Cohan

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

The Star Spangled Banner
by Francis Scott Key

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

America
by Rev. Samuel F. Smith

My country, 'tis of Thee,
Sweet Land of Liberty
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From every mountain side
Let Freedom ring.

America the Beautiful
words by Katharine Lee Bates

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

Blaze and Mel..........*HUGS*
This past weekend has been pretty tough, watching all the shows about the firefighters, police men and women, teachers, everyone.......who had anything to do with the WTC and the Pentagon. All the hereos. I watched the telethon Fri night with Gator and cried almost the whole way through it. Silent tears and a heavy heart. BUT it only shows when things are at its worst...WE are at our best, helping and caring for strangers, even putting our lives on the line to do so at times. It shows just how great this country really is! There are tough times ahead for all of us. BUT we have to stick together whether we agree with everything or not. The one thing Bin did not count on.......the US being United even through the worst time in our history!

I am who I am and if you dont like the way I am....tough shit.

Don't Tread On Me
METALLICA

Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail
once you provoke her, rattling of her tail
never begins it, never, but once engaged...
never surrenders, showing the fangs of rage

don't tread on me

so be it
threaten no more
to secure peace is to prepare for war
so be it
settle the score
touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...

don't tread on me

love it or live it, she with the deadly bite
quick is the blue tongue, forked as lighting strike
shining with brightness, always on surveillance
the eyes, they never close, emblem of vigilance

don't tread on me

so be it
threaten no more
to secure peace is to prepare for war
so be it
settle the score
touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...

don't tread on me

so be it
threaten no more
to secure peace is to prepare for war

liberty or death, what we so proudly hail
once you provoke her, rattling on her tail

so be it
threaten no more
to secure peace is to prepare for war
so be it
settle the score
touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...

don't tread on me

STRENGTH IN UNITY
How deceiving the sun's radiance
early that September morn
the crowds buzzing with activity
filling the concrete hives of progress
vocational demand voiding
their awareness of the deadly sting
about to be injected into the calm
as death and destruction
descended from the sky
split second awareness causing
cessation of movement
buzzing replaced by
numbing fear and quiet reslove
giving away to terrifying screams
as each prepared to relinquish
the body that held them
in a world too painful to endure
and passed into a new life
filled with spiritual grace,
perfect love and
incomprehensible peace
as smoke and fire billowed
from the mass gravesite
leaving the grief stricken overwhelmed
struggling, without success,
to comprehend the carnage
too elusive for the compassionate
too evil for reason
lost in the grip of the insanity
spiritually adrift...until touched
by the souls for the caring
recalling each and everyone
back to the reality of
the strength inherent in unity
and the hope afforded by faith...
